RollerBall began in a shoe box with cardboard goal boards and triangular cardboard paddles. A cats-eye marble was the ball. As with any other inventions, RollerBall experienced its era of evolution experimenting from one design to another until reaching its present state of existence.
The paddle went through many different designs, from thicker cardboards to plywood’s of different thicknesses and finally plastics of various thicknesses and designs. Early paddles allowed for a players fingers to be unnecessarily exposed until leather guards became standard on all paddles.
Along with the development of leather-clad paddles, coin operation features, digital scoring, and center and side safety shields came the confidence of having a RollerBall experience at a high-level of fun and safety we would all be able to enjoy for many years to come.
